BP3 easily, parts of that album were so cringe to me

MCHG has some great songs, same with KC

KC because of Intro, Lost Ones, Kingdom Come, Show me..., 30 something, Do you wanna ride Beach Chair, 44 fours, Grammy family freestyle (I know they aren't on the album, but came out around the same time).

I agree with this as it being favored. I think the most foreggetable is prolly Blueprint 3 Jay was showing he was trying to keep up when it wasn't really much to keep up with &a he looked kinda silly doing it... :patrice:or am I thinking of MCHG?? Eh they're both a blur to me...

BP3.
When I listen to Carta and Kingdom, I see some of the best/most genius rhymes in Jay's career, but put for Carta I see it as being over the wrong beats, flowed terribly, and structured in a terrible way just to seem artsy.
And on Kingdom Come I hear bad flows with beats that Jay shouldn't have been rhyming over, that are way too dense and not concise.
But what's most important is that I can see how to make those into amazing albums, or sew amazing poetry from Jay.
BP3 is just pop.
Also Blueprint 2 is his worst, casually.

Hate, Off That and On To The Next One were all terrible, and I never really like Venus Vs Mars and Forever Young but..

What We Talkin' About
Thank You
Run This Town
D.O.A.
Empire State Of Mind
Real As It Gets
A Star Is Born
Already Home
So Ambitious

All these songs were at least good imo, don't know why it's so hated :yeshrug:

One things for sure as much of a legend as he is theres no doubt he's diluted his discography since coming out of retirement. 4 albums and only 1 can be considered a great album

I think BP3 was definitely more guilty of that just off of Forever Young, Run This Town and Empire State of Mind. All sounded like the "stadium sound" that was hot at the time.

MCHG sounded much more like a follow up to KC than BP3 (although AG came in between, it was based off of a movie) Subject matter wise. And was a better show of "growth" IMO

KC: Talked about the pitfalls of moving from the corner to the corner office, wanting a kid and what he would do for that kid, his relationship, past friends, not doing enough for his people, being older.
MCHG: Talked about his marriage/ his new kid and sheltering that from the fame, stuggles with his new found parent hood, how he is helping more but it still is constituted as not enough, black wealth

The coli really tried to pretend like MCHG was a classic when it first came out

The Coli tries to pretend damn near every album is a classic when it first comes out.

Kingdom Come is the weakest. Sh!t makes Blueprint 3 and MCHG sound like decent albums.

Jay is one of the most incredible MCs ever, but Cot damn does he have a good amount of trash ass albums on his resume.

Kingdom Come is overly hatred on IMO. There are people that have laid out very legit reasons why they think it's very weak, and I respect that, but the overall narrative that it's a garbage album is false. People had high expectations. He was coming out of retirement, the lead off joints were good (The Just Blaze Superfreak flip had people excited) and The Black Album was maybe his peak in terms of flow. The album was a letdown, but there are memorable joints on there. The Prelude, Oh My God, Kingdom Come, Lost One, Trouble, Minority Report...even the OG Dig a Hole prod. by Just Blaze is dope. 30 Something, I Made It, Do U Wanna Ride, Show Me What You Got, and Beach Chair are decent. Hollywood and Anything are legitimately terrible.

Blueprint 3 is also one I haven't spun in a couple years, and it's not anywhere close to the top of the pack for Jay albums, but it at least has joints I remember, and there were some dope beats and flows on there. Thank You, D.O.A., What You Talking About, A Star Is Born, So Ambitious, and Already Home were pretty dope. Hate laid the groundwork for Watch The Throne. Onto the Next One was a decent single. Young FOrever is sort of corny but at least I remember it. Run This Town was a big single. The joint with Jeezy was dope. Empire State of Mind is sort of an iconic American song.

Almost nothing about MCHG stands out to me. I don't even remember most of the song titles. fukkwithmeyouknowigotit, Tom Ford, Picasso baby, Beach Is Better, and Nickel and Dimes are probably the only ones I really remember.

God damn. You're one of the posters I respect the most on this board. I legit must need to check my taste. I don't really like any of these 3 albums that much but I swore people would have it BP3 > KC > MCHG.Maybe the fukking production has me fooled, because I'm a big Just Blaze fan.

Either MCHG is way better than I thought, or KC is way worse.

KC isn't that dope but I didn't that it was way weaker than MCHG. BP3 is the best of these 3.

And you're absolutely right. I probably have Jay in the #1 or #2 spot but he's got some blemishes on the resume for sure.
