You all don't know church speak I see - religion = traditional church. If he did say it, which I doubt he means traditional institutional religion.

You may be right because those non denominational churches are cleaning up. People from all churches show up and feel comfortable. Most are also prosperity preachers so getting more people through the door means more money in the collection plate.

Besides prosperity preachers, the other group of non denominational churches is the new age evangelism which is more self-help than about faith and spiritualism. It feels so distant. I checked some of Kirk Franklin tweets and he is doing the T.D. Jakes and Joel Osteen type of approach. But I can't blame people cause some preachers are more self-centered and ego driven, so service feels so empty cause the preacher himself/herself is not fullfilled. One of the reasons they commit suicide and over 70% of pastors are so stressed out and burned out that they regularly consider leaving the ministry.

Oprah has been doing some stuff like that now. She leaves it really vague so you cant say its meditation or a certain religion. I think she saw a huge lane open for people who want answers from the universe and results. The Secret book was on her show back in the day so saying we are all connected with the universe and each other is a common theme. That Law of Attraction can be used in so many ways and not directly sound like you are advocating prayer. I try not to pass judgment unless its an obvious scam artist taking money from desperate people.

Its metaphysics mixed with low level eastern mysticism. This is the root of all self-help, this is why people love yoga, mediation, and the new age stuff about the moon & the stars & the universe.

Metaphysics is familiar cause we were all metaphysical as a child before we were introduced to faith and spirituality.
