UPDATE:
UPDATE:Raymond Felton is facing gun charges, but the initial reports about Felton pointing it at a girlfriend appear to be false. The New York Daily Newsreports that Felton turned himself in after his wife, Ariane Raymondo-Felton, brought the gun to police because she didn’t want it in the house. From NYDN:
The raven-haired beauty — a Cornell University grad who is now studying at Fordham University School of Law — filed for divorce from Felton after the couple married just 19 months ago and, according to a police source, was uncomfortable that the handgun was being kept in the home.
“She had knowledge that the gun was there,” the source said. “She said she didn’t want the gun there anymore.”
The Feltons are in the process of getting a divorce, the official said. Though Felton's wife said he never threatened her with the gun, she told police :i cant:
Felton's wife, accompanied by her attorney, turned his high-powered FNH 5.7 x 28mm semi-automatic handgun over to police Monday, claiming she didn't want the weapon in the couple's Upper West Side Manhattan apartment, a law enforcement official said
New York Knicks point guard Raymond Felton was arrested on three counts of criminal possession of a weapon, just hours after the team narrowly lost to the Dallas Mavericks.
As reported by Ian Begley of ESPN, the 29-year-old is expected to appear in a Manhattan court on Feb. 25 after turning himself in for questioning at the 20th precinct on the Upper West Side of the borough.
Begley provides details given out by a police spokesman:
Felton was charged with second- and third-degree criminal possession of a firearm, which are felonies, and fourth-degree possession of a firearm, which is a misdemeanor. Further details on the weapons charges are not known at this point.
Larry Celona of the New York Post provided further details and alleged the arrest was made after Felton pointed his gun at a woman.
Ariane Raymondo-Felton, the point guard's wife, is known to have filed for divorce after just 19 months of marriage, but Celona's article details the female in question as Felton's "girlfriend."
Chris Herring of The Wall Street Journal delivered more details on the arrest:
According to a law-enforcement official, the arrest stems from a semiautomatic handgun that allegedly belongs to Mr. Felton and was left at the apartment of his estranged wife, Ariane Felton.
Ms. Felton and the attorney representing her in divorce proceedings took the gun, which had 17 bullets in the magazine and one in the chamber, to the 20th precinct station house in Manhattan Monday evening because she no longer wanted it in the home, the official said.
Ms. Felton, 26, said that on four occasions, most recently Feb. 14, Mr. Felton waved the weapon around in an aggressive way but didn't point it at her, according to the official.
The official said the weapon and ammunition aren't legal in New York City.
New York Knicks’ starting point guard Raymond Felton was being questioned by police Tuesday morning after allegedly pointing a gun at a woman, sources said.
Sources said the woman was Felton’s girlfriend, though he made headlines last week when his wife Ariane Raymondo-Felton filed for divorce.
He is being held in the in a Manhattan police precinct early Tuesday, according to law enforcement sources. It is not clear where the gun incident happened.
The starting point guard for the Knicks signed a $10 million 3-year contract with the team in 2012.
