What I don't get is the child of these relationships will go on to make the same mistake.

Both my Grandfather and Father were looking to make a family nobody was an accident. I can say this with 100% confidence because my older Brother was miscarried so I was the result of the 2nd attempt. A conscious decision was made to have a child not some one night mistake.

Children learn from parents, it is basic psychology. This why responsible parents understand their past actions and what action they do when they have kids. Same with my parents, both went through the family process and plan to have a child. They made preparation like a stable home, savings funds, research ways to raise children, good family/social network, stable relationship, etc. For most people you can't help but be a product of your own parents, that is just how humans are wired.
