Knowledge = Power. Why aren't AA broadcasters (e.g. BET) doing this?

Police Watch. Or whatever name floats their boat.

Once a week invite a lawyer and run a show that informs the AA community of their rights. When can a police officer stop you on the street? What do they have to have before hand? What should you say or do in that situation? When can you get stopped in your car? What are your rights when this happens (which law specifically can you state to remind the police officer?) What if your rights are abused? What evidence do you need in order to go to court?

Yes there are racist officers, yes the judicial system is a joke but money makes the world go round. If the community has the knowledge of what exactly the law states and what their rights are as citizens then whenever they are in the situation where these rights are violated, you are in America (the land of sue me I sue you), take the police officer and their department to court, file a civil case and hit them where it hurts; the wallet.

On the show, invite lawyers and law firms that offer quasi pro bono representation i.e. no win, no fee.

Within no time you will have police departments training their officers and police officers thinking twice before they act illegally and infringe on the rights of people in the AA community.

BET hasn't been black owned in a loooooooong time.

:ohhh:

Makes sense, I haven't seen one thing that is useful or beneficial

If no one watches them then get them on YouTube even. Get an AA personality, to host it, I know it's aiming high but Dave Chappelle seems like the kind of person who'd get a kick out of it, is engaging and he also seems like he would care enough to sacrifice a couple of hours a week.

Perhaps The Coli could do it, as an extension, just a one off short video to see the reception it would get, contact the station that does it and deliver the material via a new platform that is more interactive and engaging. Or do it your own way. I forgot to add that viewers can phone in but on the Coli it could be real time comments on the recording. etc.

If the situation bothers you enough you can definitely use the technology (cameras, internet, forums, chat and online TV) and knowledge (legal and other) to make a difference.

Also it doesn't have to be a charity, with enough viewers the Coli could get advertisers to sponsor the programme (access to their target market and a tick on Corporate Social Responsibility) and build on that in the future.

Too much work. Let's come up with a few slogans and call it a day.

We need this show.

Because its the only profession you can be cold, callous, unprofessional, biased, and incompetent & still not lose your job.

You can remind people of their god-given rights as much as you want. However, Its the other side that doesnt care about our rights.

Doesn't matter if they care. It's about the bottom line, how much money can you get for them not caring and slipping on their job?

Just watch that money pile up and see how quickly they change their attitude.

Your "rights" on paper are not your rights in an actual interaction with police.

You can get killed too.

A black person flexing his rights can get themselves killed.

The aim here is not to challenge a police officer on the street. The aim is to know when your rights are being violated. You have the power, you are building your case from the get go, you know when that police officer comes at you while you stand on the street and you tell them that Law X, Act Y states that he needs to have a reason and he tells you to shut it and bangs your head on his bonnet, that's okay, that's great. You take this information and you sue him, especially since there will be evidence of your arrest and then hopefully he leaves a bump on your head because you take a photo of that too.

Call your no win-no fee lawyer, they file the case for you, you go to court and get compensated. In the UK, they would also have to pay your sides legal fees etc.

Don't resist, just gather evidence. You can do that when you know what is legal and what isn't.
