Bron went nuclear in that series though :mjcry:

Dwight, Turkoglu, and Lewis, those game winners :wow:

'09 LeBron was a god damn animal in that series averaged like 38/9/9

Off the top of my head, it’s the highest scoring series I think any player has had since Jordan in 1993 against the suns. He averaged more than even Shaq in 2000 against the pacers did

What did any Cavs player not named LeBron James do in that series?

Mo Williams played 42.2 minutes per game. He averaged 3.7 assists and shot 37% from the field. West shot 45% from the field and 32% from distance. He averaged 14.5 points and 3.8 assists while playing 45 minutes per game. Z and Varejao averaged about 10 and 9 points respectively while averaging a combined 9 fouls.

So Orlando was just a better team, right?

Bron couldn’t hold up his end of beating Dwight to give us the ultimate stan war finals :stopitslime:

So Orlando was just a better team, right?

Cleveland just ran into an Orlando team that was a matchup nightmare at every position except Lebron.

Dwight was way too big and strong for Z.
Rashard was too mobile and stretched the defense too much for Varejao to stay out on him.
Turkoglu was way too tall for West.
Rafer Alston was way too fast for Mo.

Add in that the backup guards (6'6" Pitrus and 6'5" Lee) were too big for Mo to guard too (not to mention 6'0" backup guard Boobie), so the Cavs were totally screwed whenever 6'10" Turkoglu was running the point. Orlando hit 62 threes that series, 20 more than Cleveland, cause they were always forcing the Cavs to collapse onto the mismatches and then shooting over Cleveland's little 6'1", 6'3", and 6'0" guards even when they got back on their man.

Completely insane that even with all those mismatches, Orlando had to win two 1-point games (with Rashard/Turk both hitting game-winners) to keep the series from going to 7 on the Cavs' home floor.

Cleveland had a squad that worked under certain situations. They matched up MUCH better against the Lakers than they did against Orlando. Bynum wasn't talented enough offensively in 2009 to dominate Z the way that Dwight did, Pau didn't stretch the floor as much as Rashard so Varejao actually could have guarded him, and Fisher wouldn't have been able to exploit Mo's shady defense the way Alston did. The sidekicks battle would have been even enough that I think a Lakers/Cavs series would have come down to Kobe vs. Lebron, and I think Lebron wins that the way he was playing in 2009

I thought Mo guarded Alston and Lebron played free safety doubling everyone while technically guarding Pietrus? Although I remember that Lebron definitely took Turkoglu on some possessions too, with West sliding over to Pietrus or Lee if Alston was in. But you're right that West was stuck trying to guard Turk a lot.

Mike Brown was screwed no matter what he did. Orlando just had mismatches all over the floor.
