The more tape I watch the more certain I get. From the start of the 2000-01 season to the 2002-03 season, Kobe was the PERFECT basketball player. He was as athletic as anyone to ever play the game. As skilled as anyone to ever play. And brought it on both sides of the court as well as anyone to ever play. Almost every basket he hit was spectacular. Just watch this montage and tell me if you've ever seen anything like it before:

he would've averaged 35 all those seasons if he wasn't sharing the ball

that era was his peak athletically and as a ball player he was running the triangle better than anybody ever by 2001 (PJ's words). His brilliance in that time period has been a bit overshadowed cuz of the narratives, but he became the best player in the league during the 2001 playoffs (Shaq's words)

I still gotta go with 24, 08-10. He could do everything early Kobe could do and more.

His athleticism was gone by then. I remember how shocked I was around the 2006-07 season when I saw Kobe getting blocked around the rim. In the early 2000s when he had his peak athleticism he almost never got blocked at the rim. He would always do something miraculous like hanging in the air or twisting his body to crazy angles to avoid shot blockers.

2000-03 Kobe had all the skills of 08-10 Kobe but way more athleticism. That's why he was better.

Exactly. We never got to see Kobe's full potential INDIVIDUALLY because he was sharing the ball with Shaq during that era.

If Kobe was leading his own team at that time he not only wins 3 straight scoring titles averaging 35+ PPG. But he also grabs a few MVPs as well. Especially if he played in the East.

He ain't have the finesse and footwork that he had in the 2nd championship run.
