It's not his ego, it's 20 years of playing SHOOTING GUARD, broken fingers, knee surgeries, torn rotator cuffs and a torn achilles. Name a perimeter player who played 20 years, I'll wait....
Ego? Nah, it's just time to go. Reduced role? He is tired and broken, that the reason of retirement.

It's kind of his ego.
You're right with all that other stuff.
But he could have retired immediately in December when he announced it.

But he didn't.
And it wasn't because of the money.

Jordan only had one major injury his entire career and that was his second or third year in the league.

Y'all seem to forget that Jordan retired twice before playing at 39. He sat once while playing baseball for two seasons and then sat for three years when he retired in '98 and not returning until the '01 season...that's five season of being able to "rehab" his body, something that Kobe never did. Kobe has played a lot more basketball than Jordan did.

Yeah but you can't assume that Jordan would have had season-ending injuries if he played those years.

Exactly. He's going to have to retire at some point ANYWAYS and he recognizes that the time is now.
