Kobe was an excellent athlete tho. Athleticism isn't just about speed and power (neither of which Kobe lacked) but also body control, small twitch muscle control and reflexes. The thing is Kobe was effective off the ball so even if he wasn't scoring he was effective in other ways.

Above the fray.
Kobe was a better athlete than Eddie Jones. He had better body control, was faster, quicker laterally, could stop on a dime, a superior jumper and had endurance.

Kobe used to wear Eddie Jones out in practice which is why Jones was traded.
No he wasn't. Kobe worked on his game, got better, and developed his game to the point where Jones was expendable.
At some point, he was a better player than EJ, but he wasn't a better athlete.

Kobe's work ethic & competitiveness are virtually unmatched. He became a much better player than guys who were equal or better athletes.

Eddie may have had a higher vert, and that's it.

Levels to this shyt.

We've all seen the freak of nature NBA athletes, Kobe is not that tier .

I remember seeing in the comment section of a YouTube video comparing Jordan dunks to Kobe dunks

one comment said:

“Jordan floats to the rim effortlessly while Kobe leans, reaches, stretches and struggles with all his energy to do the same dunk”

I thought it was a good assessment of the difference in their athleticism :ehh:

Kobe wore him out

It wasn’t just competitive.

Kobe is in that tier.

You're confusing jumping ability with athleticism, in its entirety. Not to mention a lot of his perceived limitations in the air are more to do with his hand size than his actual vert. You don't develop the skillset he did, and sustain that level of play over two decades by not being in the top tier for NBA athletes.

Kobe athletically is sh!tting on Devin booker:gucci:

#8 kobe was well regarded as one of the most elite athletes in the league.

Devin is closer to the joe Johnson & Brandon Roy of the world athletically.

Can people please stop comparing Booker to Roy and using him as some template of average athleticism , Roy was a much better athlete than Booker.

Well, sure. There are dudes who can serve 130 mph that can't sniff top 2000 on the ATP circuit.
