Because he has a brilliant method of making all of his injuries or illnesses (no matter how insignificant) very public and then he dismisses his own rumors with a bunch of false bravado.
He immediately garners sympathy for the ailment and then by pretending to marginalize the severity of the ailment, he gets even more dikksucking for playing through it like an ironman. "OMG, Kobe was 6-22 but he had an ear infection, everyone else would have sat out for a month but Kobe still played! Kobe da gawd!" When in reality, a lot of players play through the same ailments and you never hear about them.
This season is done for Kobe. He can get arthroscopic surgery to fix it now, but rehab and recovery will take months. I don't even think he would be good to go before the end of the regular season, unless he goes on some Adrian Peterson-ish deer antler velvet/HGH/steroid recuperation program.
