Media still trying to slander Kobe's name. Smh.

How are they slandering him? The story of him punching Samaki is out there and it’s from a book about the 3 peat lakers. The part about Kobe trying to be tough is true too, at the time you could see Kobe trying to be “edgy” and shyt. Especially in 04 when he had beef with damn near everybody. #8 kobe had that element where you could see him overcompensating for his suburban upbringing being around a lot of street nikkas. It wasn’t something that just stood out right in your face, but This shyt always been known if you followed him constantly from the beginning.

Jeff Pearlman been trash. fukk what you heard.

and Kobe is the only nikka in the league who didn’t fear Shaq :yeshrug:
Shaq smacked the shyt outta Ostertag’s big ass. And all Ostertag did was crawl on the floor looking for his contacts. He smacked Kobe and Kobe was still talking shyt trying to fight. And Kobe almost got into a fight with Karl Malone. I guess if he was mad enough he would fight whoever but if not he backed down :manny:

It’s weird how these same nikkas started respecting Kobe for his toughness on the court instead of that persona

He was a basketball player he was judged but how hard he went on the court. :manny:

his toughness within the context of the game was very real. He was down for whatever whenever against whomever. But at practice tryna fight Shaq and Samaki, tryna be a rapper, tryna fight chris child’s and Reggie Miller, basicslly calling Karl Malone’s fade on live Tv....all of that was him just tryna be on some tough guy shyt cuz he probably felt like everyone around him was from tougher backgrounds than him. By the time he was like 25 he moved on from that

Lol, I knew about this shyt way back then. It was one of those rare Kobe wins in a fight that is stans could bring up :russ:

Exactly, this is an article from 2002

Jackson: Incident Forgotten

Said Walker: “We’ve still got love for each other. I think this adds a little character to the team.

Samaki also told this exact story in 2016

I agree but the way he carried himself through those times was different than how he did later on. Basically maturing but when he was younger he even spoke differently you can see it in old interviews. Like I said it wasn’t something just in your face but following Kobe so much I def remember those times back in the day when you can see him trying to put off a tough guy persona

In the book Kobe comes off as one of the hardest working athletes I’ve ever read of which is nothing new. But he also comes off as a young, selfish, egotistical bully to rookies and training camp invitees who was socially underdeveloped and didn’t know who he was.

Shaq was one of the best superstar teammates off the court and was extremely generous. But he was lazy, insecure, moody, jealous and hurt Kobe didn’t want a big brother little brother relationship.

Also Shaq did a little freestyle to P.I.M.P about Kobe that I bet he wished he kept to himself.

this is all true, Kobe was a force to be reckoned with on the court but in real life he had trouble finding himself until he got older

Was listening to Russillo and Simmons pod. Shaq invited the whole team to a team dinner, Kobe says he’s not coming, eventually shows up 30 minutes late and sits away from the team by himself reading a book :mjlol:.

Kobe was cold on the court but was a complete herb off it.

Yep

how sway, this was his personality, he was a focused assassin on court but off court he was socially awkward

Kobe didn't fukk with most people. Dude was naturally an introverted loner, and at this point, thats obviously due to his childhood. :manny: He probably only showed up because Vanessa told him he should to help build comradery. Outside of MJ, she was the only person on Earth he remotely listened to. Off the court, he's one of the most complex sports personalities of all time. I'd go as far as to say his enigmatic personality contributed as much to him being polarizing as his game did.

one book just about Kobe.

that's not the point. Kobe is dead. Let him rest. We all knew Kobe had a phony street persona back in the day. But dude was a kid. We all overcompensated when we were young. There's no need to even bring this story back up now that he's gone. Kobe grew out of that phase of his life like most young men do. That wasn't the man he was when he died. The whole article just comes off spiteful.

I’m not talking about when Malone made a pass at Kobe’s wife. This happened at practice after he only took one shot in the first half against the Queens and somebody made comment in the paper. They got into it and it was looking like a repeat of him and Shaq but Phil stepped in before it escalated.

Not what I wanted to read :francis:

But to be fair #8 Kobe wasnt nearly as well liked as the #24 Kobe. He was following Jordan's every step, but playing in an Allen Iverson world. Its hard to follow the GOAT and then not want ftp eel lesser/not as hard as a peer.

And whats with the shots with Sigel.:patrice:

I'm getting a lil :old: so maybe I dont remember, but what was fake about him? Or was that just a reference of his demeanor
