Yea breh :childplease:

It really aint even an insult. As great as he was, he could have been better :manny:

I mean...I guess because he didnt stay in good enough shape all the time...but i dont think thats nearly enough to call him an underachiever historically...plus he got his act together in Miami and was almost surprisingly good in PHX. He was playing well with the Celts too given his age and wear and tear until someone sniped his calf out. Someone with his accolades/stats/performances cant be an underachiever...at that point you could say nearly everyone "couldve been better"

So Cal
Replied O'Neal "I'll do that when Bill Walton takes his toupee off." When he was told Walton didn't wear one, O'Neal tried, "look, doesn't matter how much you weigh when you can play....How many rings did Bill Walton get anyway?"
The answer was two in the NBA and three in the NCAA. "Bill's got two, too?" said O'Neal. "Oh, I didn't know that."

Shaq was a spoiled brat but kobe wasn't an angel. He was a loner who purposely separated himself from team for many years

what does that have to do with basketball? he wasn't the one coming inot training camp outta shape every year. he wasn't the one saying he'd fake injuries. he wasn't the one saying he wouldn't play defense if he didn't get the ball.

just cause kobe didn't wanna kick it with his teammates, doesn't make him some evil monster. he was obsessed with basketball. nothing else. rather than damning him for that, I would say its commendable.

ARE U KIDDING ME? SHAQ IS THE ULTIMATE UNDERACHIEVER...HE PRIDED HIMSELF ON EATING BIG MACS DURING SUMMER AND NOT LIFTING A MUSCLE. HAD HE TAKEN CARE OF HIMSELF ALA KAREEM OR KOBE, HE COULDA EASILY BEEN IN CONTENTION FOR GOAT WITH AT LEAST 6-7 RINGS ON HID HANDS.

KOBE DIDNT WANA PARTY N GO CLUBBIN, HE WANTED TO KICK IT WIT THE KNOWLEDGEABLE VETS LIKE BYRON SCOTT WHO HE COULD SOAK GAME FROM....SHAQ WAS THE OPPOSITE. IF SHAQ HAD HALF THE MATURITY OF KOBE, 2000'S LAKERS IS EASILY THE GREATEST DYNASTY OF ALL TIME.

"There's more to life than who's team it is, but this is his team, so it's time for him to act like it. That means no more coming into camp fat and out of shape when your team is relying on your leadership on and off the court. It also means no more blaming others for our teams failure or blaming staff members for not over-dramatizing your injuries so that you avoid blame for your lack of conditioning. Also, 'my team' doesn't mean only when we win. It means carrying the burden of defeat just as gracefully as you carry a championship trophy. Leaders don't beg for contract extensions and negotiate some $30-million-plus deal in the media when we have two future hall of famers playing here basically for free. A leader would not demand the ball when you have three of us besides you, not to mention the teammates that he's gone to war with for the past 3 years...By the way, you also don't threaten not to play defense and rebound if you don't get the ball every time down the floor."

:whew:

Where did these quotes come from? This is one of the most etherous, teamwork inspiring quotes I've heard and I've never seen it before.

Instead of getting surgery in the off-season, Shaq opted to wait until the regular season and rehab on company time, because he got injured on company time. Compared to Kobe, who is working in the off-season to rehab, getting surgeries ASAP, Shaq was underachieving in that regards, and that's what lead to a major rift between Shaq and Kobe. Kobe felt he was killing himself to do what he was doing, while Shaq wasn't. Whether that's right or not is debatable, but it's the way some people see him

And I get that..but ppl can really only say the underachiever stuff about shaq because of that alone. he was out of shape and lazy for a few off-seasons in a row that trickled into the seasons and was a diva..if he fell off in Miami and never did shyt at all after leaving the Lakers then itd be more valid of an argument in evaluating his whole career...he didnt necessarily overachieve given his abilities/size/athleticism obviously but he didnt underachieve either. if he retired and never played another game instead of being traded to Miami he still wouldve had a great career..compare that to Dwight..who lost in the Finals with Magic..then went to LA and played with Kobe..now he is an underachiever at this point in his career.

The problem is as @Sccit said, his underachieving is a result of his laziness. Do you think you could say that about "nearly everyone"?

Just wanted to say bill Walton was always a bytch and seemed to always have issues with young stars. People know him now as a lovable old man. But dude was a straight up hater in the 80s and early 90s. Dude hated on MJ, Shaq and the fab Five for years. Broke foot having, acid hitting, weed head, lisp talking mothafuka.
