KOBE WAS TYPICALLY ASSIGNED TO THE OPPONENTS BEST PERIMETER PLAYER .. U HAVE NO IDEA WTF U TALKIN BOUT, ACTIN LIKE THE COACHES ARE STUPID .. IF ANYTHIN, KOBE WAS ROBBED OF ACCOLADES BY THE MEDIA. IF COACHES N PLAYERS VOTED FOR MVP, KOBE WOULD HAVE AT LEAST 3. NEVER BRING UP THE MEDIA AGAINST KOBE HOMEBOY.
No he wasn't! Thats one of the myths that leads to his rep being the way it was. He guarded Wade by choice because it was personal and got pick and rolled to death all game. Just about everyone else he guarded was a one way defensive guy that was in there to guard him. They didn't bring in Ariza and Artest to guard Keith Bogans :dead:

Lakers saw how effective this strategy was when Detroit used it on Kobe

That's what he is remembering and now he's trying to take credit for it. No one here will name a single instance of it happening.

Kobe's mind games on defense were that he had absolutely no desire to guard anyone. They would assign him to the most garbage player on the other team and then encourage that guy to shoot by leaving him open.

Or how about quitting on your team at your whim by taking yourself out of the flow of the game just to prove a point? :sas2:

that could be the case but I think they were too young back then. But i remember Russy just straight up passing up Durant and missing the buzzer beater most of the time and didn't they both get max contracts?

CUZ HE WAS STILL A LOCKDOWN DEFENDER.. HE JUST FINALLY HAD SOME DEFENSIVE PRESSURE RELEIVED OFF HIM
Nope, he just stood around the paint making no difference while he saved his energy to take shots on the other end.

the ether
Lol @ you thinking you know more than pro writers who watch hundreds of games up close and have voted for Kobe for all nba defensive teams.

Unbiased writers or biased Bilz

He probably knows more than the guy who doesn't even know who was voting for Kobe for those all-defensive teams. :umad:

It's actually coaches who vote for All-Defensive Teams, and there's plenty of commentary here and here and here as to why their choices are often idiotic.

Especially since, unlike Sccit wants to believe, it's probably not the coaches filling out those ballots.

This guy was trying to claim that Kobe should have been an MVP candidate in 2013, now he's saying that 2009 is "towards the end of Kobe's career". :deadmanny:

Nobody ever accused Kobe of being unaware or stupid.

He created his own nickname like a cornball.
Kyrie's comments about "mamba mentality" gave even more of a boost to this idea of Kobe as a strategic, clutch performer.

Stories like the OP and this "mamba mentality" are a marketing tool to boost Kobe's brand: Something more important than ever now that he's retired.

And by the way, there's hardly an agreed upon definition of clutch, but this article attempts to create a fair one...and to no ones surprise, there are better players in the clutch than Mamba.

A Statistical Analysis Of Clutch NBA Shooters Since 2000

Perhaps it should be Dirk Determination. Or King James Mentality.
