The triangle does not need a point guard because it is an equal opportunity offense. If they strictly adhered to it, it would excuse Kobe's lack of assists because the offense would not have revolved around him. All of those isolations and postups you saw from Kobe were not conventional triangle plays. If you think that the triangle sidelined his quest for assists, you prove that you don't know what the triangle is or how much his teams were running it.
