I wonder what the difference is from having an illegal firearm and lying on an application. Which is worse?
breh i'm pretty far gone off that tito's but i'ma try my best to explain the sentencing guidelines haha. a felon having a firearm is typically a state beef, some states prosecute really aggressively, some (mostly democrat) states don't prosecute it at all or try to plead you down to a way lower charge. however some democrat areas like nyc or dc will throw you under the jail for it so be aware of how your local government is. fed beef on illegal firearms is 5-10 years, but if it's your third violent felony or drug-related conviction it's a 15 year minimum. the average sentence is around 60 months but keep in mind almost everyone with fed beef pleas out to avoid the nickel minimum.
about lying on the application, it's also 5-10 years but it's never prosecuted. check out
this paper breh, in 2017 there were 112 thousand people who lied on the application and got denied from buying a gun. 12 thousand of them got investigated, 50 got referred for prosecution... and 12 ended up being charged. out of a 112,000 lol. and it looks like states don't really care about it either, the report's author looked at 13 different states and 10 of them said they don't investigate or charge people for lying on the form at all.
