Most of Nas' career takes place in the late 90s & 00s when rap stopped being great. He is a major player in the decline of raps quality on major labels.

It's called globalization and hyper capitalism, read up on it. Nas was born in the wrong era, you can't penalize him for that.
Nas keeping the essence of Hip Hop ongiong to me on that level, Where Are They Now and the remixes, his references, Sly Fox, Project Roaches, Daughters, Can't Forget About You, even doing some innovative things with the Distant Relatives album. What other mainstream artist has done things like that within the time period?
Krs was 26 years old by sex & violence. That's the entire BDP recording run.
When Nas was 26 he recorded Nastradamus.
Mainstream music isn't hip hop dumb ass..you just answered your question
You don't get the world's economy was different. The music industry was much more structured and less flexible then when KRS 1 came up. Globalization and hyper capitalism made Rap accessible to the mainstream, not Nas.
More like it was bill Clinton economic boom that had people buying albums like crazy and Nas wanted a taste of that puddin'.
He WROTE gettin jiggy wit it, right?
Think about that.
