Illmatic was a tremendous album. Everyone loved it and just on some hip hop in NYC shyt it influenced cats. But I don't see Cuban Linx borrowing much from it. I do see IWW sharking heavy from them though.

The problem isn't with illmatic.

It's with the rest of his career. It doesn't help that his stans are such hard liners. They will look you in the face and say shyt like I Am is a borderline classic. Watch. It'll happen in response to this very post. It's like the tea party.
NO ONE IS SAYING I AM IS EVEN CLOSE TO BEING CLASSIC, BUT IT IS NOT AS BAD AN ALBUM AS SOME OF YOU MAKE IT OUT TO BE!!!!!!!TRUTH!!!
BY THE WAY ITS NAS FOR ME AND ITS NOT CLOSE!!!!

The whole Nas sold out thing is way overblown. On It Was Written, Nas brought the mafioso subject that have been dominating East Coast hip hop at the time. This album received critical acclaim aside from a few critics that didn't like Nas using Trackmasters production.

How is this album bad? Street Dreams, The Message, I Gave You Power, Black Girl Lost, Affirmative Action, Take It In Blood, If I Ruled The World are all great tracks. The album is clearly one of the best of the 90s, several artists have been influenced by it, I've even seen tribute tracks. It's a classic.

Nas never made mainstream pop music :comeon:, out of the popular artists Nas always had the hardest subject matter.

I Am... was not classic but far from being wack it was a solid album, Nastradamus only had a few good song but this was a rushed album we all know Nas wanted a double CD and the bootlegging stopped him. Stillmatic is a classic it captured 2001 with the whole Jay-Z beef. Lost Tapes, God's Son, Hip Hop is Dead, Life is Good were all critically acclaimed. Nas has an amazing discography.

I'm taking Nas over KRS. Nas is a better, more complex lyricist, more relaxed voice. Nas has an amazing discography, extremely influential (most rappers today cite Nas as an influence, from contemporaries like 2Pac, Ghostface and Jay to guys like Cole, Kendrick and Lupe), those who Nas idolized like Kool G Rap, Rakim, Slick Rick, KRS, Kool Moe Dee all think very highly of Nas, llmatic is widely believed to be the G.O.A.T. album, great longevity Nas been in the game for over 20 years and he's still putting out great albums and moving good units.

We've seen Nas grow from rugged, chipped tooth kid from the projects to 40 year old man facing issues such as aging, divorce, fatherhood, etc. G.O.A.T. diss track series in Stillmatic Freestyle, Ether, Destroy & Rebuild, Last Real Nig*a Alive. Nobody is messing with Nas unreleased track catalog, from Live at the BBQ to Let Nas Down/Made Nas Proud who has better guest features?

Nas has a versatile subject matter, he has introspective track, gangsta tracks (NY State of Mind), conscious tracks (I Can), even party tracks although not his forte (Dr.Knockboot), an entire reggae/rap fusion album with Damian Marley (Distant Relatives). His creativity is G.O.A.T., on Rewind he rapped backwards, on Fetus he rapped before birth, on Amongst Kings he raps after death, UBR of Rakim is a biography, Doo Rags is an autobiography, One Love was a letter to an incarcerated friend, Money is my B*tch an allegorical tale, Sekou Story he raps in the perspective of a woman, on I Gave You Power he raps in the perspective of a gun.

When you look at Nas' technical skills (lyrical ability, voice, flow), his discography, longevity, consistency, versatility, creativity, performance in beefs, influence, unreleased material, guess features he's G.O.A.T. :ahh:
