Yep. I remember hearing about that too. The general consensus was that he came up with alot of that stuff but did have some notes somewhere on his wrist. Told Kofi a few things but it was pretty secretive. Just did a quick verification that it was being said that Punk had notes when I typed this into Google "Word also is that Punk had some notes for his speech jotted down on his wrist tape." Bunch of shyt came up. I know Im not crazy when I said I remember alot of people talking about this a few years back. And Punk did do an interview talking about all of this. But its been too long to remember what interview that was.You do know that he rehearsed what he was going to say backstage with Kofi right? As for Kurt saying Austin improvised that would explain why he hasn't cut a good promo since 98
If the writers were so great for The Rock, what the hell happened? Why is everything written so poorly now?

Because they went from having former wrestlers and writers who grew up on wrestling to having failed Hollywood hopefuls, all the writers now are hoping their script they wrote back in college gets picked up for a pilot

As a fan, I can only judge what's on the screen. Rock was too great for these claims to make me think any differently about him.
To be honest, on a lot of the shyt he said would probably sound wack on paper OR delivered by anyone else. His charisma, delivery and swagger is what sold his promos and made him great.

- Mistakenly thinking PG means poopy jokes
- Wrestlers being completely scripted which leads to saying lines instead of delivering them
- Vince being old, out of touch, and having the final say

That's surprising... but even if his lines were written for him he sold the shyt out of them with more delivery and charisma than anybody except for maybe Flair.
This is all that matters, these dudes act like being that damn entertaining off the top is possible. Just like all the butt hurt delusional fans who still dont think their favorite rappers have had hooks and verses written for them or had help
Bruce Prichard did say once that Rock was pissed HHH went off script, but then they told Rock that it's live TV and you can retaliate.
Ole its still real to me ass nikkas, ofcourse that shyt wasnt off the top. His shyt was to witty to just be making it all up as he went along.. its not like he didnt give input on what he wanted to say. Do you think all these great entertainers who wrote books wrote them shyts with out writers help?

its wrestling, you cant claim to still be the top promo, when others wrote your shyt. never was a fan of his little mimicky comedy sketches.

all my favs wrote their own shyt. pipper used to take with him a small pocket book and write little lines came up with the 'kick ass, and chew bubblegum' shyt like that. jake did the same, lenny talked about how macho used to work on his promos very hard. hbk mother said he lost his smile, and then hbk cut that lost his smile moment. honky tonk talked about twisting country rock lyrics for his promos and the list goes on.
its a shame rock isnt on that list of greats but he ran off hype after 2000, his novelty kicked in way earlier than austin but austin was just always better screen time. while rock tries too hard now i see why after the early rock days i stopped fcking with him, i see he let others dictate his character.

does this change how good his promos were?
does it this negate the fact that his movies make billions, I mean he remembered them lines and delivered them so good he turned it into a successful movie career. Would you rather have that or be old broken down wrestler needing vince to pay for your surgeries, but you get all the respect from the IWC for free styling your promos.
Look there was a dvd that came out and it was all about people like him and Austin going in on the crowd after the show ended. all of that shyt was freestyle and it was still great, You would be stupid to go out there on some I'm a ignore all the help i can get and try go off the top. You would rather fail than use the talented writers they had to make you millions, cause what ego?

im just talking pro wrestling not extra curricular acts even though the movie pain&gain was dope
the rest is opinions, i have always found therock corny but now he is not solely to blame, the legends did their own shyt but the rock cant claim this.
