I wouldn't say he's great..I would say he is a very good spot wrestler that got good at doing good executions, a lot of no sell kick outs, and suplexes. His set ups to get to the ankle locks have always been completely illogical and ridiculous. People just love a kick out fest...as seen at WM 21. People choose and pick when they like a kick out fest..they despised the Rock/Cena II one but act like the Michaels/Angle one and Taker/Michaels ones at WM 25 were just the greatest shyt on earth. So that's just the goofball fanbase at work with their online agendas and being out of synch with the rest of the fanbase that actually couldn't give two shyts about that goofiness.
Angle's talents didn't make him a star...he got pushed hard from the get go. The biggest push ever next to Goldberg and Lesnar at the time..so he was destined to be in a good spot very quickly. They had him working with top names and going over the majority of the midcard. He just couldn't get to that Nth level and reach the Austin/Rock level of greatness. Fans never chose him over Eddie either..so he was very reliable as a worker but not a company lead dog type. Guys like Angle and Edge aren't REALLY legit but fans fell for the endless push and act like they doing legendary material by the week. He had some funny lines in 2001 and 2002 but that shyt didn't stand the test of time.

if you're talking about early on during his rise then yes, you have a point because he even mentioned on JR's podcast that he didn't know what the hell he was doing out there but Rock and Austin made him look like a million bucks..but as far as him being a spot wrestler during 03'-07' those years I consider his in-ring prime, then no, he was legit during those years having classics with Mysterio, Beniot, Eddie, Lesnar, Taker and no carry jobs on either side.
but a spade is a spade.
