I’m usually offended by people like Vanilla Ice and stuff like that…The white man ripped off the black man long enough. They should leave rap music to the African-Americans because they do it so well and it is so vital to them.

Cac told the truth :whew:

I see why he's dead. :coffee:

Kurt Co aight with me. Nirvana the last rock band that mattered in the mainstream.
:ohhh: Damn, you may be right. Unless you count nu metal, the only one I can think of after that that made huge waves in the mainstream was Marilyn Manson and the other neo shock rock of the mid 90s. Rock has fallen off in the mainstream. Coldplay was the last new rock act to play a superbowl, and they got overshadowed by Beyonce.

I think generally speaking this is true you do get anomalies like Eminem obviously but most white rappers don't belong.

Kurt Cobain Said White People Shouldn’t Make Rap Music

”We can’t dance, we can’t rap.”

In a previously unheard 1991 interview, Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain expressed his stance that white people shouldn’t make rap music. The conversation was between Cobain and Roberto Lorusso, a musician and then-university student who posted the interview online.

The pair discuss the band’s tour, financial situation, and why they wanted to work with producer Butch Vig on Nevermind. Later, Lorusso asks Cobain about his feelings on the activist music group Consolidated, whose white members rapped frequently. He responds:

I’m a fan of rap music, but most of it is so misogynist that I can’t even deal with it. I’m really not that much of a fan, I totally respect and love it because it’s one of the only original forms of music that’s been introduced, but the white man doing rap is just like watching a white man dance. We can’t dance, we can’t rap.

Cobain expressed similar feelings in an interview with Billboard from the same year, saying:

I think rap music is the only vital form of music that has been introduced to music in a long time since punk rock. I would never do rap music. No. There’s just no sense in it. The people who do rap music do it just fine…I’m usually offended by people like Vanilla Ice and stuff like that…The white man ripped off the black man long enough. They should leave rap music to the African-Americans because they do it so well and it is so vital to them.

Since his death in 1994, Cobain’s name and music have remained a fixture in hip-hop. Nirvana’s song “Smells Like Teen Spirit” has been sampled and interpolated by artists like JAY-Z, Lupe Fiasco, and Meyhem Lauren.

Cobain has been referenced in songs by many high-profile artists, including Kendrick Lamar on “HiiiPoWeR” when he raps about the downside of the kind of massive success Nirvana enjoyed:

They play musical chairs once I’m on that pedestal
Frightening, so fukking frightening
Enough to drive a man insane, a woman insane
The reason Lauryn Hill don’t sing, or Kurt Cobain
Loaded that clip and then said bang, the drama it bring is crazy
On KIDS SEE GHOSTS Kanye West and Kid Cudi sampled Cobain’s “Burn The Rain” for their song “Cudi Montage.”
