There was not a lot if any, and it's due to a combination of circumstances.

Number One.-Kurupt will always be an unsung legend, because, even though he's the kind of MC who spits poison everytime, the type of music he makes lack mass appeal by design, that hardcore type of hip-hop shyt that doesn't reach much beyond the underground hip-hop heads (so yeah despite everyone knowing who he is due to his affiiliations Kurupt's an underground rapper) that like that type of shyt, kinda similar to Papoose if you're wondering of an NY example (although Kurupt actually has dope albums) or a Beanie Sigel, and also he's someone who's past his prime moment of relevance and the relevance of whatever you say it's directly proportionate to whoever says it.

(Also being the guy who made the song New York New York already way back when he was at the top of his relevance and in his prime, it's redundant for him to say it now that he's way past it, wich is why, there's little reason for anyone to hype it.)

Number Two.- But Kendrick is one of those rarities that has both mainstream appeal and underground traits in his music so when someone like him who also is VERY relevant now, says it, and also reaches a lot of people when he says it, he's actually considered as a contender for being one of the greatest, because here you have a guy who can both spit and actually make great songs (like Em or Jay).

ANd Finally there's the huge difference that Kurupt didn't name call a list of the hottest rappers at the time, so he didn't even remotely press all the buttons Kendrick did with his verse.

Yeah yeah, Kurupt has a song actually called "Callin' out Names" released years after New York, New York and he actually calls out a bunch of names.... to PRAISE them, but he actually on disses DMX and Ja Rule, even back then Kurupt was small fish to those guys for them to pay much attention...

And sometime later he actually apologized or squashed the frictions, whatver it was about dumb jealoust over Foxy Brown.

That song can't be compared to what Kendrick said, don't them fool you...
