Tha Dogg Poundβs Kurupt is working on his seventh solo LP, which also happens to be his first in seven years. Since dropping Streetlights in 2010, the former Death Row EVP has yet to release a studio album. That is about to change, however, as he and longtime collaborator Fredwreck (who produced much of Kuruptβs Tha Streetz Iz a Mutha in 1999 and follow-up Space Boogie: Smoke Odyssey in 2001) gear up to record their upcoming project, Scuba Dust. Fredβ revealed details about the album to HipHopDX yesterday.
βWe want to call this Scuba Dust because we want to take you to underwater funk,β he explained. βThe other record we did was Space Boogie, and we were in outer space with that one.β
Kurupt has created some of his biggest hits with the producer, including the uptempo funky banger βWho Ride Wit Usβ (featuring Daz Dillinger) off his sophomore solo set, as well as Space Boogieβs title track. Although theyβve already recorded about 20 songs, stressing βquality over quantity,β the two hadnβt released a record together in over 15 years. That is until earlier this year when they gave DJ Pooh the song βInfernoβ for his Grow House feature film soundtrack.
