Proper context for anyone that cares -

When Kyle Lowry was struggling early on in the post-season, Tyronn Lue was a mentor the Toronto Raptors guard reached out to.

Even now that Lowry and Lue are at opposite ends of the same court, in the NBA Eastern Conference final, they still talk.

"Throughout the course of the playoffs I've talked to him," Lue said prior to Thursday night's Game 2 tipoff. "We had a chance to talk today a little bit over text, and he said he wanted to come over last night and watch the [Western Conference final] game. But he knew he couldn't. He knew it wouldn't look right.

"But we have a great relationship, and I'm just so happy for him and proud of the player that he's become."

Lowry has referred to the 39-year-old Cavaliers head coach as a father figure. When questioned about the reference, Lue explained that virtually the day Lowry was drafted into the NBA in 2006, eight years into Lue's playing career, he took Lowry under his wing. It was a natural fit since the two shared the same agent.

"It was crazy, when he got drafted, when [Lowry] first came in, he said that he 'wanted to be like Tyronn Lue,"' said Lue, who played 11 years in the NBA for seven different teams. "He wanted to compare himself to me. I was like, 'Well, you can be much better than me.' I was just a role player.

Lowry and Lue have been close for years. He never asked to go to his house, just that he wanted to but knew obviously he couldn't because of the circumstances.

I'm a big Lowry fan, but outside of a couple games, he's been downright bad these playoffs

There's no need to sugarcoat it like that

Dude is 30, multiple time all star, that's been to playoffs before

You make it seem like he's 23 and getting his first taste of the postseason
Yeah, I thought he was younger for some reason, but I still don't see it as a train wreck.

He's gotta handle the pressure better going forward. That going to the locker room to "decompress" stuff was a sign of weakness.

Man fukk that mentor shyt. This is chess not checkers, he probably saw the boy was mentally not built for this shyt n can't handle the pressure so he threw this out there as the dagger. Aint no love in war :shaq:

Making it to the ECF to face Bron with a stacked team can't be a train wreck.

It's his first time here, he's gotta learn. Bron was similarly shaken his first time deep into the playoffs too.

It's a learning experience at this point. Hopefully he's done with the shenanigans and goes out there with his chin up for the rest of the series.
He's been trash in the playoffs from the jump, and this is after performing terribly in his other playoff appearances prior to this year. Outside of the game 6 and 7 performances against a battered Heat squad this is who he has been in the playoffs.

All this drip on me
Man this some shyt that needs to be kept behind closed doors no doubt.:patrice:

It's obvious that both view each other's relationship as something that beyond the basketball scope, which is dope - like a big brother-little brother friendship that offers life advice and an OG that got your back regarding irl shyt.

So to keep it 100, Ty Lue should've kept this shyt on the low and not air out fam like that especially since he knows this shyt would look funny in the light for both of them.

clear non-story but this thread will go 10+ pages and he featured all with people calling Lowry a bytch and Lue a snake even with the context provided.
