Man, a lot of use didn't realize Murray was going to be this good at football.
Doesn't matter how good you thought he was going to be. He was the #1 pick. That alone meant a guaranteed $35 million which is way more than he would have made after his first 4 years in baseball. Baseball players don't make big money until after their 6th season. By which point Kyler would have already been up over $100 million in football not including endorsements.

Look at Mookie Betts. Dude is a MVP, World Series Champ, DPOTY, 4x All star, 3x Silver Slugger, 4x Golden Glove and in 7 seasons he's only made $33 million dollars. :mindblown:.

:yeshrug:We didn't think he'd be the #1 pick or anywhere close to it.. A lot of people didn't. And they were wrong.

I cant speak for homeboy you quoted, but I thought he was too tiny to seriously be valued that high as QB on draft day. Shyt, I thought he'd slide just like most other Big XII quarterbacks do...I'll admit i was wrong about him. Kid is nice.

But to imply that baseball players typically don't get paid or that players shouldn't choose baseball over football is beyond silly. Theres a massive dropoff in pay after a certain level at QB. If you want to truly cash out in football as a QB you gotta get drafted high and prove to be among the best in the world at your position. That wasnt seen as a huge guarantee for him when people were saying he should go play for Oakland.

This thread was made January 9th. Kliff Kingsbury was hired January 8th as the Cardinals head coach. He made it no secret that he wanted Kyler Murray as his Qb. There was no doubt in anyone's mind Kyler would be drafted #1 based on those sequence of events. And if you ain't think he was going #1 there was no doubt in anyone's mind he was falling out the top 10.

But is this not the same case for baseball? Go look at what players in baseball are making money and who aren't. If you're not a pitcher or power hitter, you're not making big time money. And Kyler Murray wasn't either of those.

Also there are plenty of Qb's that aren't close to being the best and are making big money. Ryan Fitzpatrick has made $63 million in his career. Blake Bortles has made $47 million in his career. Ryan Tannehill has made $78 million in his career so far and just signed a $130 million deal. Andy Dalton has made $83 million in his career. Derek Carr has made $72 million in his career and when his deal is up he will have made $130 million.

Baseball money was always fools gold for a guy like Kyler Murray. He wasn't going to be eligible for his first real deal until he was 28 years old. Compared to football he'll do that when he's 25. And again this isn't including endorsements which there are a lot of them when you're the #1 QB. He signed a Nike deal right before he was drafted.

I didnt say best in the league I said best in the world. And youre only proving my point. All of the guys you listed were drafted high or proved to have staying power. Theres only a select group of people that end up doing that. A lot of people didn't think he'd be one of them.

There wasnt "zero doubt in anyones mind" that hed go top 10... nothing is a given when it comes to the NFL Draft It doesnt matter what someone reports in January. Look how many QBs over the years were projected top 5 picks at one point ended up sliding to the 2nd/3rd ROUND. You got a 5'10 Big XII QB with baby arms and a fragile frame... and hes black. I honestly thought theyd do him dirty. The same reality that highly drafted QBs are paid so much is the same reason why I thought theyd get cold feet on him. when time for franchises to make the pick things switch up all the time.

You could slice it any way you want, but at the end of the day if you didnt think he would actually end up going that high, its not dumb to have considered playing baseball instead, a sport where its way easier to make solid money in general. Its bum ass no-name journeyman utility outfielders who arent even top 50 at their position who would literally retire on the spot if they were offered Colt McCoy money.

Hindsight is a motherfukka.

Hell I thought Kyler was making a huge mistake too but with the MLB crumbling before our eyes it seems like he made the right decision so far. He would've had to be a really dope baseball player to work himself into earning more than what he'll probably make in his 2nd NFL contract.

I would stick to baseball but being that he plays qb,m and has a chance of being successful at the next level, he’s in a different kind of quandary where he can make baseball type of money a lot sooner as a good NFL qb compared to waiting several years in the minors in hopes of being called up and still having to wait to get the big check.

Must be nice to have this type of problem

Did people not see this kid's college tape? Had me questioning whether I was an idiot, his arm alone was elite

Kyler went #1 and Cardinals traded Josh Rosen, what more can you ask for :russ:
