I think it comes from an internalized inferiority complex. Black people that attach themselves to these movements are looking for something to hold onto because the idea of us just being Africans that are victims of white supremacy doesn’t feel “fair.” For a lot of people, there needs to be some mystic meaning behind our heritage to justify why white people have marginalized us the way they have.
