Had a convo with a friend, and he was talking about Steph vs Kyrie. After the convo was over, it got me to thinking:

Kyrie was recruited by Duke, and was consensus top 5 in his class and Steph wasn't in the top 100 for some recruiting sites. He and Steph are very similar in terms of build and athleticism. Steph was the son of an NBA player, and highly skilled. None of the big programs recruited him and he ended up at Davidson.

How in the HECK did that happen? Any HS/CBB fans can recall back to those time frames and remember what happened?

Kyrie was always going to be a great NBA player and it was obvious.

Steph was never thought of as someone that would be a great NBA player, let alone one of the best in the league. This was long before the Agenda, the Kerr Illegal Screen Offense, the anti-Lebron trolls that would become the backbone of Curry's fanbase etc. He was just a kid that could shoot and was maybe too small and slow to make it in the NBA.

What I'm saying is, while not identical, they are very similar.

Both play below the rim, and are extremely skilled offensively. They're basically the same height.

I was introduced to Curry during the tourney like most of the country but I would say it was an amalgamation of factors. Curry’s game improved when he was at Davidson, I remember reading that Dell told Steph while he was in high school that he’d have to change his form if he wants to make it to the league. He was already lacking the physique and height to be on the radar of national recruiters so he needed his game to be further developed.

The most interesting thing about these dudes is, neither one of them looked like they'd be playing professional sports as seniors. They look like regular, square dudes. Derrick Rose, for instance, looked like an athlete without moving a muscle. Same with John Wall. Chris Paul is similar to Kyrie and Steph in that they look waaay too much like regular dudes to be one of the absolute best in the world.

Steph is a classic example of a late bloomer, but With Dell Curry being the best player ever to come out of Virginia Tech you would think his son would at least get a chance to walk on there but Seth Greenberg thought differently :francis:
.When Kyrie transferred into st. Patrick's his junior year and prior to the season starting Kevin Boyle said that Kyrie had a chance to be the best guard to ever come out of Jersey a lot of people paid close attention. When Kyrie played well during the season but then went beast mode during AAU season the hype was through the roof after that.

Bruh, I know he was cold. Obviously he was very cold to be on Duke's radar, and be given the ball as a freshman PG. That being said, I'm talking about physical appearance.

If you didn't know dude when he was, say, 15, and you saw him at the court, your eye don't gravitate to him. If you saw Derrick Rose, he just look like he should be cold at hooping.
