Cool. People in the city overwhelmingly supported the teachers. I rarely saw an animosity towards the striking teachers.

It was really telling geographically because you see the economic divides within the city. Schools on the westside of LA, with high income per capita, had less students in attendance as their parents were able to take them to work, keep them home or have someone else supervise them, meanwhile in my landlocked, "urban" and "inner city" areas, there was a higher proportion of students who went to school.

As a product of LAUSD I can attest to being in a classroom with 45-50 other students. This usually occurred classes like English and history. Meanwhile math and science classes were usually smaller.

The downside, while I got high marks in high school, I didnt feel prepared academically for college. There was a steep learning curve I had to overcome to keep, despite being a nearly straight A student. The ducked up thing I remember about high school is that nearly half the teachers I had in my final two years, lost their passion for teaching. They were legit just there to collect the check. If you cared, you did the assigned text on the board, if you didn't care, the teacher would just sit back and let you fail.

I heard the other day that the eastside hasn't had a new school built in like 45 years. :mindblown: Like in what universe did anybody think that was sustainable?

Eastside :whoa: :whoa: :whoa: no one refers to East LA as that.

I'm not from East LA and have rarely spent any time over there, but it's not surprising. Actually it is because about 10 years ago, LA started building a grip of new schools to combat overcrowding. I cant phantom them not building new public schools in East LA, since that's a densely populated and economically underserved area. I'll look into it though.

Maybe if you spent more time there you would be able to read polls and have more informed discussions. Just saying
