I know someone who worked at the Maryland Department of Health. She speculated the COVID was the result of a lab error and they may have had knowledge of the virus earlier than they claimed.

It was harmful for international relations. But now we are at odds with china anyway and floating this info serves as further justification to the people to act with animus towards them [if there wasnt enough yet already].
Americans may not have wanted to fight china before but if you combine unwanted surveillance with arming our opponents in a proxy war and blaming them for all the misery caused by covid and you have a decent recipe to get recruitment up
