I've seen it happen plenty of times, simply because the woman didn't feel good seeing herself like that, and wanted to lose weight for her own self-esteem. Had an aunt that was like that, still married to the same guy.

Of course, with all those body acceptance movements, people tend to become astonishingly comfortable with being obese...
