What content do you think is gonna get greenlit when all the decision makers are a small circle of old, out of touch and conservative white men?

If diverse content doesn’t have mass appeal or is cheap to produce, it will be dead in the water and not given a chance to catch on.

Take season 2 of HBO Max’s Love Life as an example. It’s based on the experiences of a straight black man dating in NYC.

It has a predominantly black cast and its told in an authentic way because they purposely hired black writers who could tell a story from a Black lens.

Leadership changes like what’s going on trickle down to decisions like the above and other areas of the business. IF the shyt even gets greenlit, you think a room full of out of touch white dudes gonna be like, “Maybe we should swap out the white writers from season 1 and hire black writers who can get it right.”? Nah, they gonna have the season 1 writers writing dialogue for black characters, and it would come out like you would expect.
