What would be the point? They'd still be over the cap and couldn't sign a better replacement. They're over the cap with just Nash, Gasol and Kobe :whoa:

From what I've gathered most people don't realize how the Amnesty actually works.

All it does is remove a players contract from your cap. Teams still have to pay that player (unless another team picks them up for the same amount).

I said in the Lakers thread that Amnestying Metta would be pointless rightnow. It doesn't put a dent in the cap and good luck finding someone else as good as him defensively for the amount of money the Lakers actually have to spend.

The only guys who could put a dent in cap by amnestying are Pau and Kobe and both are too valuable to amnesty and then allow for some other team to pick up (while still paying the bulk of their salary).

Still can't belee they were paying him THAT much.

Ron isn't really getting paid that much this season. That's just how much his contract ends up costing because of the salary tax. Teams who are over the cap have to pay a dollar for dollar tax, and if you're a repeatedly over the cap it's even more.

Ron's actual contract is only 7 million for this year. It wouldn't be seen as a bad contract if not for his drop off in production. The mistake was putting a player option into his contract.

It's a pain in the ass now, but Ron played a VERY important role for the team his first season here. Ron is a Laker in my eyes, he's embraced the city and the city has embraced him.

No one is getting amnestied. All these expirings can be helpful for the team. All I can ask for is some young inexpensive talent, a few all-stars, and solid vets.

Yup, it's be much more beneficial to trade them to another team for some decent young players.

Problem is I can't off the top of my head think of a team that could use Metta that also has anything we'd want.

Only time will tell, at this point Mitch should just be patient and make prudent lowkey moves that present themselves. Those trades where he picked up Ariza or when he picked up Shannon were the types of things that helped this team be a winner imo. Get off that big name kick and get good commodities.

I know its the in thing to shyt on Kobe right now but I still believe with the right team he can contribute on a championship level. He can't be the focal point, but he can still provide that transition between the old and new. And to be real, in all this dwight shyt I've gained a newfound respect and appreciation for Gasol. I still don't think he's the answer, but he deserves to retire a Laker imo if the price is right.

Lakers are gunning for Lebron and Melo next year. They're saving the amnesty for Melo. :bryan:
