“Lamar has introduced me to things that I didn’t know were out there really for pleasure.

Lamar smoked a lot of weed. It was an everyday thing. We had to smoke before we ate, when we woke up for breakfast. We smoked all the time together, and he smoked much more than I did.

He introduced me to ecstasy.

The first night I spent with Lamar Odom in San Francisco, Lamar walked to his backpack, opened up a prescription bottle — I had no idea what it was — grabbed a few pills, grabbed a few pieces of aluminum foil and went into the bathroom. All I heard was a flickering of a lighter … over, and over, and over, and over again. I immediately contacted my best friend to look this up, see what it is, and it was oxycontin.

When I walked through the door and saw Lamar actually smoking the oxycontin, I was beyond shocked. I couldn’t believe that he had reached that point.

During the time that I spent with Lamar, there was two days, I think he was smoking about four oxycontin’s back to back to back … just burning them and burning them.

When I found out this is what he’s doing, I had to do something. The decision I made was there has to be an intervention, period. One way or the other, this guy’s gonna be a statistic and, that’s not good.

So after leaving the bathroom, and having him feel comfortable enough to do it around me in the bedroom he told me ‘Everything will be okay.’ I said, ‘Let me try it.’ He said, ‘No problem, I’ll do it for you.’ He lit the aluminum foil, I grabbed the pipe and I inhaled it.
He said everything was gonna be okay, there was gonna be no problem. I just remember … blackout.

I was afraid that only only Lamar would be dead, that I would die. I was afraid that I would wake up and be shaking him and he wouldn’t wake up. I was afraid that he woulda shaken me and I wouldn’t wake up … or that we both wouldn’t have waken up that day.

I knew Lamar was killing himself. He was killing himself. This was just the beginning.”
