He conflated fantasy and reality. He wanted a white woman because he's been told they're the finest of the fine, the purest of the pure. And they should all be flocking to him! After all, he's got money, cars, symbols of status. But then the reality doesn't live up to the fantasy and he gets pissed off. When it turns out he's dealing with actual human beings with their own desires, with beings who have agency and don't just land in his lap, it's too much. I think he viewed women, especially white women, as objects to be attained or possessed. When he didn't get what he wanted, he blamed the object of his desire and lashed out against them.

But that's just me playing internet psychologist.

Yes, we have. Metal detectors were put into schools for a reason. If I remember correctly, pre-Internet or Web 1.0, black kids and poor white kids were shooting up schools every year for a while back in the late 80s and early 90s. Then Columbine happened, and became the Missing White Girl Syndrome of school shootings.

And neither dude nor Sterling are white. @Napoleon is right, white supremacy is real. It doesn't affect just whites, and it doesn't affect just non-whites. When you are on that cusp of being accepted as 'just as good as white' but you're still not white, you're still only honorary until further notice, that has to screw up your head, too.
