IMO it affects you because you can dehumanize all the people that you don't personally know, in a tribe, you wouldn't (hypothetically speaking here, obviously) want to kill Becky Sue because she was your aunts daughter who you grew up with, you know everybody, it's just different imo. It's the same reason babies get ran over in the street in China and it gets ignored, there are a fukking billion people there. It's not simply that he was white, he was extremely wealthy. That's the bigger part here.
being white and extremely wealthy gives white people the luxury of being their true selves, and this is who they truly are without the facades. his only real drawback is his parents not properly socializing him to interact with other people a fan early age.
he's a kid who wanted love from a female companion, he had no experience with what that actually was, and his perception of what "love" is, is largely shaped by media; movies, and more importantly, PORN! he equated love with SEX, because he had no experience with the emotional aspect. he simply didn't have the skills to make it happen and his frustration about not having those skills grew and grew until that frustration became pathological, "mental disease island."
the world told him who he was as a white male in western society (superior, dominant). his own life wasn't reflecting those things, and his inability to rationalize it, eventually led up to him reverting to his true devil nature and relishing in it while talking about how he would kill his victims. those demonic words were flowing from his mouth like water melting from glaciers plagued by global warming.
we know why deep down, but many of us simply won't accept it.
they're inherently evil and when shyt doesn't go their way or they feel wronged, even if their wrong, they reveal their true selves.
