He took this deal because it's a three-year deal with a last year t/option. Why would he go for $8.8m for 5 years in Indiana, when he can go for 2/3 and have the opportunity to get more?

I'm sure Indiana would have come to some kind of agreement with him if 3 years was all he was looking for. Why would he want to lock himself into a 5-year deal at that price (with a 7.5% salary cap rise in one season), in a place that he wasn't happy in? Regardless, Morey not matching Parsons' deal took his price down, else it would have been Dallas/Charlotte bidding against each other.
