True, I dodged a bullet. I was very close to renting my house last year in July. I did a background check on the lady and her husband and saw 3 different eviction court orders…

You know what's sad? You gotta run the check on anyone in their family. Ppl are grimey enough to use their kids, cousins, relatives that don't even know etc. This is why I always recommend ppl check out section 8. Obviously this will depend on location etc. But you rarely have to worry about payment.

The law is stacked against landlords because of their past fukkery. The pendulum may swing back.
This issue is the law being applied stupidly to small landlords who may own 1-6 units. They shouldn’t be treated like corporate leasing entities or moguls who own 100’s of units. Contrary to public opinion, most, not all, but most, small landlords try to do right by their tenants as they don’t have the finances to weather a tenant withholding rent during a disagreement or the funds to be fighting with people in court

I've heard that section 8 can be wild. You can get unlucky and get knuckleheads that destroy your unit, or hit the jackpot and get an old lady who only moves between the bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen.

Landlord life ain't for me, though. Heard too many horror stories. :hubie:
