Officer Shot, Wounded During Incident in Watts; Search for Gunman Ongoing

A Los Angeles police officer and another person were shot during an incident in Watts, officials said Monday night.

The incident was reported about 11:10 p.m. near the intersection of 111th and Antwerp streets.

The officer apparently walked into a shooting in the area and was shot in the left arm, LAPD Sgt. James Linder said. The officer was conscious and breathing and was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

Another person was injured during the incident and is in unknown condition. It is also unknown if that person was shot by an officer or a suspect.

A large perimeter was set up around Nickerson Gardens public housing project as authorities searched for the suspect or suspects in the incident.

Linder told the Los Angeles Times that an “agitated” crowd gathered after the shooting, but the group eventually dispersed.
