Nah, not in a land we are all foreign to anyway...
Without a doubt this is the wilderness of North America as taught by The Hon. Elijah Muhammad, but you introduced the phrase today.

When dudes try to ascribe the “black mecca” tag to their city it’s trying to replicate what NYC represents to our people. None of those cities have put in the work that NYC has.

Better to just say “my city is a regional powerhouse for Blacks”

NY represents the largest concentrations of our people and we know it as that, but our people don't collectively view NY as the soul controller or contributer to black history and culture. That's a very NY way of thinking 😆...

There are more regional powerhouses than actual meccas but I think in a country where our ~40 to 45-million population is spread coast to coast, there is no one place that dominates our culture. I'm in Idaho right now, granted aren't many of us here but the few I've gotten to talk to, NY never came up in conversation...

Black people out this way aren't getting their cues from NY 😂...

This is hard for New Yorkers to believe because of the pull NY has up and down the East Coast, but there are many places in the US where black folk aren't NY-centric...

The city life for African Americans is coming to an end, we either move to the burbs after meeting wifey and starting a family or move out of town to a smaller city with a lower cost of living. Cacs are purposely pricing us out of the big cities. Last time I checked NYC black population was over 2.2 million and now only 1.7 and I know that decline has a lot to do with the gentrification of Brooklyn and other areas.

You're not in a Black Mecca if everywhere you go; you atleast hear someone speaking Spanish. :heh:

Or if 40% of the radio stations are Spanish speaking. :heh:

we have a huge cultural and political impact. Like how 12-15% of the country got the rest of the 88-85% in a chokehold?
Was wondering if this perception were skewed because we ourselves are black.....
But the fact that americans put a disproportionate amount of focus on sports and entertainment this is def true. Even in the middle of nowhere Idaho or whatever cacs are probably daily ingesting some aspect of black culture whether it's voluntary or not

That’s just about it and Harlem.

Queens black community (southeast) is way too far from everything and is a successful black section of the city that already looks and feels suburban.

The south Bronx Mott haven neighborhood is really very Hispanic so I can’t claim that as black gentrification.

People don’t speak about this but a lot of immigrants have pushed out nyc black population just as much as hipster cacs.

There are many hoods in nyc that are mostly south Asian or Hispanic that formally had much higher black populations

Why y'all make these threads just to make backhanded disses to shyt on NYC...:stopitslime:

It could've been a good thread but as always :unimpressed:

One starring this shyt.

Stop bytching, this is not a diss thread...

No one call LA a Black Mecca. :heh:

The Black population in California is actually decreasing.

The black population is decreasing virtually everywhere outside the South, with the exception of a handful of cities. Black population is dropping much faster in some notable northern cities than it is in California cities...

I'm in Idaho, nah Black culture is virtually nonexistent here. The few times I've seen muhfukkas playing hip hop were white people or Mexicans. All these muhfukkas dress like they ready for a rodeo, they huge into country music and that type shyt out here...

Which is another point to make in this thread, there are many, many places where we aren't in large number, so our culture also isn't in those places. I do believe there is an indercounting in Black people in this country, particularly given the Grey area of leniency on people who are of African descent but don't identify as Black American; I think our real population is closer to 15% than 12%...

Regardless, I agree that our impact on American culture is outsized relative to our population, its directly visible in so many cities and places that we are neither the majority nor plurality, but have arguably the strongest impact on local culture; example in Charlotte we are neither the majority nor plurality, and there is certainly impact from other groups in Charlotte, bit it's a black ass city culturally...

That sounds about right. Atlanta has a little over 500K people or less and the black population is below 50%

230k sounds spot on

Metro Atlanta is what he's thinking of. I'll have the metro lists published up here some time this weekend...
