Mexico ruled TX for 15 years.
They never established any presence in East TX during that time.
Houston was founded after Anglos took over TX and was built by African Americans slaves. AAs are the oldest, most foundations & influential community here. Mexicans are foreigners.
Even the places which were historically Mexican they aren't as important to as AAs are to Houston. For instance, AA communities in San Antonio and Los Angelese are older than the Mexican community in Houston. Yet, Mexicans in those places have no problem making AAs feel like they don't belong there and walk around like they own the place.
