The guy that Holmes beat in the ring that night was Tim Doc Anderson. His story is crazy too.
After Mark Gastineau's football career ended, he tried to box. The idea was to give him a bunch of easy opponents until he had a nice record, and then feed him to George Foreman for a payday.
Tim Anderson beat Gastineau in a fight in San Francisco, ruining his undefeated record. I went to the fight as a kid.
They had a rematch a few months later, and Gastineau won the rematch by KO. Both fighters were managed by Elvis Parker, and he allegedly offered Anderson money to take a dive in the first fight. Anderson refused and won the fight. The rematch, Anderson said he was woozy and out of it, and felt drugged.
Anderson suspected that Elvis drugged him, and when he brought it up to him, Elvis kept threatening to kill Anderson's family if he said anything about being drugged. Anderson ended up murdering Elvis in a hotel room. He's doing life now.
Elvis's sister became friends with Anderson and supports him. He was such a vile POS that even his own sister doesn't blame the guy who killed him.
