The money those athletes back than made was still decent...but also remember the NBA wasn't as big as it is same with most other sports...Don't compare yesterday with today.....Jim Brown was dominate and up and retired just because you can play a sport doesn't mean you love it.

If you needed a 2nd job in the off season, it wasn't decent enough. It's the reason why Pee Wee Kirkland made more money selling drugs than playing pro ball. The point is that the OGs paved the way for guys like Larry Sanders to get paid enough money that you didn't have to worry about getting another job while you're playing a sport professionally. He's taking it for granted.

part of human nature is to grind hard when your broke but your brain lacks motivation after becoming successful. that's just human nature. thats why these athletes thrive off any form of disrespect - media, coaches, owners etc. they need some form of motivation and a higher level to aim for.

you won't find a dude with an active sex life hitting on new chicks in bars, thirsty as the day he began. the motivation is gone.

love of the game = motivation

Just makes you appreciate guys like Tim and Kobe who are still doing it 18-19 years in and all the other guys that had long careers too

Maybe cuz he 6'11 and has been told his entire like if he can chew gum and dribble you can make millions Maybe he never loved the game or cared about the game at all. He saw it as a business. There are plenty of dudes in the NBA that don't give 2 fukks about basketball. They just got size and took advantage of it.
