Last Friday' Stalled After Ice Cube and Warner Bros. Get Into Heated Battle Over Its Development

Man, it's time for some fresh ideas. Friday came out 25+ years ago. It was a great comedy franchise but Ive been wanting black filmakers to stop with the rehashing of their old films and make some new cult classics

Only way I see a new Friday movie could work is if....

A) they made it a prequel with how Craig and Smokey first met with Ice Cube's real life son playing the role of Young Craig

or

B) the movie is how Craig's parents first met and have some type of adventure with his brother Elroy with John Witherspoon's real life son J.D. Witherspoon to play a Young Pops

. That sounds like some Dumb and Dumberer shyt breh.

An animated movie with JD playing his father's role may not be bad tho. Might make up for The Boondocks crew doing him dirty.

While I wouldn't mind another Friday movie, the last one, in 2002, had the feel of a Straight to DVD tone to it. I hope Cube doesn't think this would be a blockbuster because of nostalgia, because it wouldn't be.

I'm pretty sure that Warner Bros. would glady come off the rights to those movies if Cube had the bread or another company came with the bag to make it happen.

Other companies just don't think the properties would make back the ROI of what it would take to get the rights. Even Warner Bros. doesn't think so as well or they would have given Cube the greenlight years ago to do a new Friday film.
