As an African who spent years in the UK, I can tell you it can be difficult to love your host country. You work yourself to death in the cold, pay endless bills and get subjected to racism by natives. My mindset was definitely to get money and bail. I’m in Nigeria now and yeah, it’s not as functional as England, but my mental health and quality of life is way better. You guys will never know what it feels like to never be accepted no matter how much you excel and try to fit in. A lot of Africans have that mindset.
