Even my Mom loved this, I bought her the single lol...It got overexposed, and was had to be played like 4x an hour on both rap/r&b stations, but it was dope....The whole '98 era is going to always have that place for me, because I was 13, and just getting into music like that, and getting into life....first girlfriends, everyone rocking Tommy or Nautica, first chain, first watch all that shyt..
Good music is good music regardless. The content may be female related, but so are the songs "Mama's Just a Little Girl" and "Brenda's Got a Baby," and those are great songs. I wouldn't say the song sounds girly either, she's spitting.
