Understanding that gender is typically defined by behavioral, cultural, psychological traits that we associate with sex doesn't mean you co-sign transgender identity. We all understand that race is bunch of made up nonsense but we have to adhere to certain principles behind it because the most powerful in the world enforce them.

I personally feel transgender identity is a form of body dysmorphia but it doesn't change the fact that gender in of itself is a social construct and the roles of genders can vary depending on what part of the world you are in or what point in history you are looking at.

. When they say gender is a social construct,they mean each society defines what roles each gender has. That's not supporting NOR is it dismissing anyone. What is expected behavior wise for a woman in India is different than it is in the US. SAME FOR MEN. it doesn't mean anything except what it means.
