Lawsuit claims Pfizer fellowship program is biased against whites, Asian-Americans

NEW YORK, Sept 15, 2022 (Reuters) - A group of medical professionals that advocates against "radical, divisive, and discriminatory ideology" in healthcare sued Pfizer Inc (PFE.N) on Thursday, saying the drugmaker runs a fellowship that illegally excludes white and Asian-American applicants.

In a complaint filed in Manhattan federal court, the plaintiff Do No Harm called Pfizer's Breakthrough Fellowship Program "discriminatory on its face" because only Blacks, Latinos and Native Americans can apply.

It said the program violates federal, New York state and New York City civil rights laws, as well as a federal ban on racial discrimination by companies that accept reimbursements from government healthcare programs.

"Racial discrimination demeans us," and Pfizer's "open exclusion of white and Asian-American applicants is illegal," the complaint said, citing opinions of two conservative Supreme Court justices, Clarence Thomas and the late Antonin Scalia

The lawsuit seeks injunctions barring Pfizer from making race a factor in obtaining fellowships, and preventing it from filling the 2023 class under current eligibility rules. It also seeks $1 in nominal damages.

In a statement, Pfizer said it had not reviewed the lawsuit, but had "every confidence" that the fellowship program complied with all U.S. employment laws.

"We will continue to strive to create more opportunity, including through specific programs designed to cast a wide net for talent," it added.

Do No Harm had no immediate additional comment. The Glen Allen, Virginia-based group said its members include doctors, other healthcare professionals, medical students, patients and policymakers.

Based in New York, Pfizer said the fellowship program is part of a nine-year commitment to boost minority representation, and that the company aims to enroll 100 fellows by 2025.

Fellows receive two years of full-time jobs after graduating from college, fully-funded master's degrees, and employment at Pfizer after completing the program.

In a statement on Pfizer's website, Chief Executive Albert Bourla said the program can help "lead to parity at all levels to create a vibrant culture where every colleague has the opportunity to succeed."

The case is Do No Harm v Pfizer Inc, U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York, No. 22-07908.

This has been a strong trend the past few years. Whites and asians are challenging anything as racial discrimination that's geard towards helping blacks. Some of these lawsuits actually ruled in their favor. As @Chrishaune said, the only way to get out of it is to create your own. There is no shame in their game with these lawsuits.

Let me just note that the Asian part is not necessarily true. This is a subsect of Asians being used the same way Hershel Walker or Clarence Thomas are being used. There is a single white dude who has been plotting this stuff since the 80s. There are whole books written on the dude.

During my time in both undergrad and grad school, most Asians I encountered on campus and even those I met abroad on travels were sympathetic to the plight of black people and even didn't mind reperations. And this was for most nationalities ranging from Japanese to Koreans, to Hong Kong Chinese to south Asians. I will admit I didn't encounter many S.E.A Asians in my journies, but I hear they are pretty cool from west coast brehs.

Minorities in the U.S. have been brainwashed and those are the ones that will be used against equality for all of mankind. There is always going to be that segment. You have to separate and build with your people...The Civil Rights movement is a fairytale. It won't happen until God is in control...Even He told people to split up and don't try to come together without Him. (babel)

It ain't black owned. You build black owned and keep it black owned... Preferably outside of this country.
I understand what you are stating, but Pfizer is a private company and they can do with their money as they see fit. The lawsuit is basically a nuisance suit. What harm is that program doing to anyone anywhere?

As you see they run up against opposition most likely started from the inside of their own company...

But ya'll can go ahead and believe in these European owned operations if you want to. That ain't for me...

They are being sued by an outside organization called "Do No Harm."

Pfizer is a private company. They can do whatever they want with their own money. This is basically a nuisance lawsuit.
