Layzie Bone and Rocky Rock of Mo Thugs Records sat down with VladTV, and the Bone Thugs rapper opened up about living the street life during his childhood. The Cleveland rapper started from the beginning and revealed that he was just ten when he got into the street life, adding that it was only a few years later that he was caught with 140 rocks of crack. Layzie then pointed out that he wanted to be a big time drug dealer just like Freeway Ricky, but it was an incident at 16 that left him wanting to leave the street life behind for music.

Layzie explained that he was shot in his neighborhood during a case of mistaken identity, which left him with a bullet permanently lodged in his head. The rapper told us that it was at that moment that he knew he had to get out of the street life and start to work towards a career in music.

Hit the above slide to hear more from Layzie, including how Bone Thugs changed up their name at the request of Eazy-E.

This is whats so great about artists from yesteryear: they had mystique. Ive been a Bone fan for over 20 years now and ive never knew this. Matter fact, i really dont know shyt about none of the members really outside of Bizzy's child abduction situation. It was all about the music. Artists today are too "out there". We know too much about them. They have zero "mystique" and its really taking away from the music.

Bonethugs was my dudes in the mid 90's...dudes was always chilled(high) as fuk in interviews but always rapped fast. For some reason I found that shyt fascinating about them dudes cause I was really mellow myself back then. I really liked the cinematography in "Foe the luv of $"...prolly one of my fav videos.

Same here. And i think that's part of the reason why people stopped buying music. Because it's easy to get and artists fukked themselves by jumping on social media b1tching about everything but the music. Like a Kanye West album feels like a live runway show rather than digestible music. Im saying that by not even hearing the album. I haven't checked for Kanye since LR. I just feel like his ego is 1000 times bigger than his music. Music is a spectical that lasts for a few weeks or so until we anticipate the next thing. Im still passionate about it in my own way. It's still innovative but it lost its mystique and innocence when labels started dictating what makes a hit record. Freedom of expression got taken away. And now artists are just disposable.

I remember reading about this in a People magazine back in 97. shyt was random as fukk, but dope fact none the less.

People magazine writes/wrote about that type stuff?

I remember it being mentioned in the source that year. the one with the 4 different bone covers. along with the texas chit and layzie getting the bone name from there.

that's the only time I remember him speaking on it until now.
