Econ how long you been in the game?

Off and on for 7+ years. I had to get back into it more during and after grad school due to the statistical programs we used to run econometrics with. I have a bias towards opensource (coding for opensource you can learn a lot) so I have been going over coding concepts to prep to learn the Linux kernel from the ground up and play with Arch to get a better grasp of Linux in general rather than using prepackaged distros. My friend codes games for android/iPhone and I might just tag along and get more into that for a hobby though.

Game Programming > all other projects. You'll get so sick of having to deal with X,Z,Y coordinates though. LOL

I've played around with Linux kernel programming in the past, only problem now is I've gotten so use to using managed code C#/Java, I dont look forward to going back to C programming.

My Uncle got me an Internship lined up which could lead to a full time position if they see I can understand the code.

The thing is I haven't coded in 7 years, Since I was a Soph in H.S.

Now I got a to cram for a month on Java.

I downloaded netbeans and Jcreator, the thing is I don't want to start with fvcking hello world. I want to look at projects with multiple classes and Instantiate them in other classes and the main class, so I can re-grasp the concept.

I would scape netbeans and download eclipse instead( esp if you want to get into Mobile programming, plus most companies use it ). I would look for small open source projects on the net.

For those looking to get into Game Programming, I would stay clear of Objective-C/Open GL ES or C++ if you dont have any programming experience.

Instead look into C#/XNA framework( You can actually release games on Xbox Live arcade and make $$$$ ).

Here's a great tutorial I went through a couple of weeks ago.

App Hub - welcome: 2d game development tutorial

Coding changes the way you think. I hated it when i first started but the progress I've made in 2 yrs is fukkin nuts. I'm tryin to get into mobile app dev now but i swear to god configuring eclipse to find the java JDK is harder than programming.

Glad I only need to deal with front-end development but over the years I've had to step up my jQuery and PHP/Ajax game. Implementing a CMS into my static websites is about the most I need to go in terms of dealing with PHP and such :win:

iOS and web apps is where it's at though brehs, if you're a master with objective c you can find work anywhere.

:ooh: I've always been intrigue in learning how to code, specially Web apps. But I don't know where should I get started. I know I'm going to need a compiler and note pad + right?
