:ehh:I know quite a few people who took Linux and Oracle and make 80K atleast. You most definitely have to be dedicated, there was a software engineer who took a programming course- like 3 months, lied on resume got hired for 120k annually and got fired like after 2 months cause he didn't know shyt.:shaq2:

:feedme:can you give more info??
and do you think that something like this would benefit someone in africa?
I'm still self-studying (my friend has a start-up he's getting a little bit of funding from, so that's what I'll be doing), but there are so many options to choose from.
And depends where you are in Africa, I know so many Nigerian and Ghanian brehs eating right now in CS, a few from Tanzania too.
I'm definitely not the most experienced person in this, not by a long-shot, check out the Higher Learning Thread on Developing and Computer Science.

If not the self-study route, I'd take the Community College route like @CharlieManson said, you get access to instructors who love to help students out, a library full of books on the languages themselves, the theory, the mathematics surrounding it, and its incredibly easy to network and find internships/jobs.

What do you do once you study all of that?
You build.
There are project ideas everywhere, designs, free-lance work that can be done, its honestly endless.
There are some Reddit threads on beginner Ruby/Python/Java projects that I've found useful.
Google is definitely your friend here, you can find teams of people who need a coder with knowledge in this area, or that area, and you can get hired on pretty easily.
Paid internships are also in abundance, but if you have a modicum of confidence in your skills to do at least basic development work, you can fix up your resume and start mass-applying until something sticks.

Alot of IT Jobs in the DMV Require security clearances... for sure. Im not sure how these indians who own consulting companies bypass all that. but they do. I interviewed with a consulting company that sponsors foreigner for a contract jobs at NIH in bethesda.

And this is what people like @Xtraz2 don't understand because they don't even have a job in any tech field.

No company is going to pay you 70k out the gate with no experience. You see the same retarded comments from the same posters in everyone of these threads.
Yes this is a lot to do with the marketing that these coding bootcamps do to get people to spent 15+k and a portion of their first year salary. These people are slick brehs, don't give up your careers to do something you don't really have much of an interest for just because you see figures thrown around.

There are advantages to going to bootcamps but don't think you're gonna be an average breh doing an average job for 70+k.

Even in the article it states that 97% get hired after 6 months of the bootcamp. The bootcamp may only be 12-14 weeks long, but they are also saying you have to have at least 6 months more dedication to the field to guarantee to be hired. So listen to the language carefully before you buy into anything you're being sold....and make no mistake, you are being sold expectations when you read stuff like this. They trying to make money just like the rest of us.

Medical Laboratory Sciences. In the US, there are severe shortages in the workforce due to new (higher) standards for certification and education. It is something that has well paid positions at multiple levels of degrees, although Associate and Bachelor are the most common.

Get a job that actually has human value

It won't. It's borderline over-rated. Genuinely think there's more money learning how to design

:what: A computer science degree goes in-depth with high level math and physics courses that teaches you to think logically and comes in handy when dealing with video game physics :martin:

That's not the same as actually programming

Sounds like programming to me :francis:

Knowing the syntax of whatever language is only 10% of programming. I was an electrical engineer that transferred to development after getting a masters in comp sci and the one thing I can say that the guys with a BS in computer science have over me is their ridiculous knowledge of data structures, and algorithms. When shyt hits the fan and you really need someone to optimize your systems the CS guys are who you'll come running too to fix that shyt.
