This main event for 31 got me thinking about other Mania main events with no hype. Was Jericho/Trips like this going into Mania? I know the crowd was meh due to Hogan/Rock.

The fact that HHH would have the nerve to headline WM 18 over Hogan no matter how old and washed up he was by then.

I'm mixed on the wm18 main event.

should hogan rock main evented? probably. but the title match SHOULD be the main event.
at wm28 i would've rather Punk vs Jericho to go last but I get it.

The championship match should always go last. If a wrestler is more valuable than the title, what's the title really worth? Besides, how does one steal the show then if they go out last?

HHH should not have been in a championship match at that point.

this is the problem though when you crown undeserving champions and undeserving contenders. everyone could see that the rock is more big time than the 2 jabronis in the main event so why isn't he in the championship match? could you imagine if rock-hogan had the belt on the line???

eh...hindsight is 20/20 I suppose. it's not like that match was something on the back burner that they knew about months in advance and could prepare for. but man... that match is even MORE electric if it went on last and was for the belt!

If Hulk walked that belt into the ring like he did with Warrior at WM6 the job would have been better as the main event.

Now people just look back on the match like it didn't matter who went over because Hogan had the crowd.

Hogan was old and Rock was in his prime and deserved the belt for that match no doubt.

I was thinkin more if rock was champion...

hogan wasn't even around how could he go into maina with the belt???

that would have been silly imo. rock was the man he should have been the champion going into mania, point blank. you could break up the monotony in the filler months by putting the belt on other guys but when it comes time for mania season the title and main event picture should feature the hottest guy in the company in some capacity.

the WWE shot themselves in the foot. The build for the title match was trash and the undercard had two of the most charsimatic wrestlers ever against each other for the first time.

It was just poor planning. I dont know if anyone would of every given more of a shyt the title match, but the hype could of been just as close possibly.

:edit:

Historically speaking though HHH had been a part of a few dud main events though..

I'm not sure if this counts but the Triple H-Orton match at Wrestlemania 25. The match had plenty of hype and one of the best builds that we had seen in years but it was the second match after the epic Undertaker-Michaels I match. Plus the stipulations for the match were :dahell:. And the wrong person won.

Hogan needed the belt going into the match so he could pass the belt to Rock who was in his prime.

Now looking back nobody cares about the finish or the fact HHH did a job to put the belt on Hogan after it.

The failed 2002 NWO without Savage angle was the end to the glory years for that company.
